“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation.”  Psalms 51:12a

When we become Christians, God gives us a new nature.  "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17.  Our desires have changed.  We may have to refrain from doing activities we previously enjoyed.  We now find our joy in serving God.

Over time we may begin to feel that being a Christian is a burden.  It's too restrictive.  We look at going to church, attending Bible study, reading our Bible, etc. as tasks to be checked off.  We don't find any pleasure in doing them.  We don't hear from God.  God seems far away.

David felt the same way after his sin with Bathsheba.  His sin blocked his fellowship with God.  No joy.  He finally came to the point that he missed God.  David confessed his sins and asked for forgiveness.  He begged God to restore the joy he had lost.  David wanted the joy and happiness in his soul back.

What about you?  Do you inwardly struggle with reading your Bible, going to church or behaving like a Christian?   Is there a heaviness in your soul?  The good news is there's a simple solution.  Confess those feelings and any sins to God.  He promises to forgive you.  He will restore your relationship with him and as a bonus will restore your joy.  Your heart will feel lighter and your smile will be brighter.  Thank God for his love, forgiveness and restoration.
