Balanced Beauty

Have you ever watched a ballet? Did you observe the beauty gliding across the stage? The pirouettes, as they twirl on the tips of their toes? That’s balance. Even though we are not dancers, we need balance in our lives as well. Too much of any one thing can throw us off balance. We need time to rest and refresh our bodies and our souls.

We need nourishment for our bodies to be able to perform at their best. Foods that are life-giving. Wholesome and packed with nutrients. Fresh vegetables and fruits are delicious. Take time to savor each bite. The texture and flavor. Whole grains are a good source of fiber which is good for our digestive system. Our bodies are 60% water. It’s important to stay hydrated even in winter. Hydration affects the skin as well as every other system in our body. If you’re not used to taking care of your physical health, start now. It’s about balance. Eating well-balanced food with an occasional treat.

Our souls need nourishment, too. It needs time for silent reflection.to see what is working well for you and what is not. A time to engage in your passions. A time to figure out what brings you joy. Pursue those. Perhaps you enjoy soft music playing in the background with a scented candle filling up the room with a pleasing aroma while you’re reading. Are you a writer? An artist? Explore possibilities.

Just like a dancer strengthens her body so she can stand on her toes and spin, we need to strengthen ours. Exercise is another way to add balance to our lives. Start small with something you enjoy doing. Take a walk outside and enjoy the crisp, fresh air. Winter has its own special beauty.
